The ICE GENESIS project is being carried out by a consortium (led by AIRBUS OPERATION SAS) made up of 30 EU and non-EU partners from 9 countries (France, Austria, Italy, UK, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada and Japan).

Each ICE GENESIS partner offers the multi-disciplinary expertise which is required in order to impact the aeronautical sector and to provide the expertise needed to meet the expectations from the participants, the industry and the European Commission.

TECHNISCHE UNIVERSITÄT BRAUNSCHWEIG

Technische Universität (TU) Braunschweig is the oldest institute of technology in Germany. The academic community comprises some 20,000 students and 3,500 university employees, core disciplines are engineering and natural sciences.
Affiliated to TU Braunschweig, the Institute of Fluid Mechanics focuses on both fundamental and applied research related to aerodynamics and fluid mechanics. With 38 scientific employees and 9 blue-collar workers, the institute offers a broad expertise in fluid mechanical theory, numerical and complex experimental methods and prototype manufacturing.

Role in the project

TUBS will focus its research activities on liquid icing conditions. In WP6, TUBS will upgrade its icing wind tunnel to obtain App. O capabilities. Thereafter, TUBS will use the facility for testing droplet temperature measurement techniques in WP4. Finally, the subject of ice roughness is studied in WP9 both experimentally and computationally. Ice roughness is a crucial part for estimating the heat transfer, which promotes ice accretion.
